The southern blocks either side of Renmin South Road around Tongzilin metro station where Chengdu's foreigners have lived since the 1990s: the compounds of Tongzilin Road and the Korean-run streets east of it, international schools, import supermarkets, Western and Korean restaurants, the pubs where the city's expats watch football. Consulate Road is here too, named for the US consulate that stood on it from 1985 until China ordered it shut on 27 July 2020. Free streets, no sights; the place to go when you need a flat white, a pharmacy that has heard of your prescription, or a bar where English is the working language. A 20-minute walk from Yulin.
