Chengdu's bamboo park on the south bank by the university, built around the memory of the Tang poet Xue Tao (768-832). It is a free 149-mu garden with more than 500 bamboo varieties (the park's own count) wrapped around a fenced 39-mu heritage precinct — the Xue Tao Well, the Poem-Chanting Tower, and the four-storey Chongli Pavilion of 1889 that everyone calls Wangjianglou, Chengdu's old skyline symbol on the river. The heritage zone is ¥20, real-name booking via the park's WeChat mini-program up to 3 days ahead or by ID at the gate, 9:00-18:00 by the 2026 listing; the garden opens early and late for tea-drinkers and tai chi.

Beat the crowds
The bamboo garden is a locals' park — busiest 7:00-9:00 and 16:00-19:00 with tea and dancing; the heritage zone is never full outside holidays (300 a day in its 2023 trial). Weekday 9:00 gives you the pavilion alone.
