Eleven storeys of stilt-house-style shops and restaurants stacked against the cliff between Cangbai Road and the Jialing riverside — built in 2006, relit in 2018, and since then the single most photographed thing in Chongqing. It is a 4A scenic spot with no admission charge; the district lists it as open 11:00-23:00 and the lights come on at dusk (19:30-23:00 since 3 September 2026 per the 渝中文旅 account, but the hour changes several times a year). Two entrances at two altitudes: floor 1 on Jiabin Road by the river, floor 11 on Cangbai Road at street level — the lift between them is free and the queue for it is the whole story.
EntranceFloor 11 / Cangbai Rd: Line 1 or 6 Xiaoshizi, or Line 2 Linjiangmen, then 5-10 min on foot. Floor 1 / Jiabin Rd: riverside road, taxis often barred at night

How to book
No booking on ordinary days (city notice, 25 July 2024) and none on holidays either: the 2026 Spring Festival notice says 'free entry' with crowd control by capacity — 16,014 people at any one time — and 'temporary slowing or suspension of entry' when full (entry was suspended one evening over Spring Festival 2026); check the 洪崖洞 service account's real-time crowd page before National Day or Spring FestivalVerified · 2024-07Source ↗
ID details
No ID rule published; passport handling is unconfirmed. None — the 2026 Spring Festival notice sets no ID requirement; the 'ID card to enter' on a 2023 platform page was the old reservation flow
Beat the crowds
Come from the top: enter at floor 11 on Cangbai Road (Xiaoshizi station, Line 1/6, or Linjiangmen, Line 2) and walk down; the lift from floor 1 is the queue everyone complains about. Lights-on is the crush — from 21:30 the tour groups are gone.
