The 1954 assembly hall that Deng Xiaoping's Southwest government built as a Temple-of-Heaven lookalike: a 55 m peacock-blue dome over a 4,206-seat auditorium, flanked by two wings and a four-star hotel, on a base of imperial stairs (municipal government). The exterior and the square in front are free and open all day — the square is where the district does its evening dancing. Going inside is a paid tour of the auditorium, 8:00-18:00 with last entry 17:30 (municipal government, 2024); the ticket is ¥8 (the city's A-level scenic-spot list to December 2025 and its 2019 price table; the listings agree; the 2008 and 2013 price orders had it at ¥10 — the hall's own site prints no figure).

How to book

Walk-up ticket at the hall: A-level scenic spots have been booking-free since 25 July 2024 (city culture and tourism commission; the hall is on the 4A list) and the hall's own site prints no booking page; the local listing (Bendibao) also names an official mini-program 重庆市人民大礼堂 for advance bookingVerified · 2024-07Source ↗

ID details

Valid ID required; passport handling is unconfirmed. Not stated by the hall; the 2013 price order gives half price to 60-70s and free entry to over-70s, the disabled and servicemen 'with valid documents' (the listing says free over 65)

Paying on site

Front steps → ticket window → auditorium foyer and hall (when no event). The hall's site prints no price; the city's A-level scenic-spot list (to Dec 2025) prints 'peak 8, off-peak 8', its 2019 price table lists ¥8 and the local listing says ¥8 adult, ¥4 half price for 7-18s, students and 60-64, free under 6 and over 65 (Bendibao, undated).

Beat the crowds

The square is busiest at dusk when the dancing starts and the dome lights come on; the interior is a 15-minute look and rarely a queue. On public holidays the police expect the streets round here to jam 8:00-19:00 (Yuzhong police, Sept 2025) — arrive by metro.
