Zhou Enlai's Residence at Zengjiayan 50 and Zhongshan 4th Road
A three-storey 1930s town house at the east end of Zhongshan 4th Road, rented in 1939 in Zhou Enlai's name as the Communists' in-town office ('Zhou's Mansion') while the Nationalist government sat a few doors down; the Southern Bureau's culture, women's, foreign-affairs and military groups worked here and Mao received writers in the house during the 1945 talks (museum). Free, no booking since October 2025, and the one Hongyan site that stays open into the evening: 9:00-19:00, last entry 18:30 (museum, Feb 2026). The street itself — plane trees, the 1930s villas, Guiyuan where the Double Tenth Agreement was signed, the old Nationalist headquarters — is Chongqing's most walkable half-kilometre of wartime history, free and unfenced.
None since 1 Oct 2025 — same rule as Hongyan Village: scan a valid identity document at the turnstile (museum notice)Verified · 2025-09Source ↗
Door on Zengjiayan → scan your document → in. No ticket.
School and work-unit groups fill the small rooms 10:00-15:00; the house is quietest after 16:00, when the rest of Hongyan has already stopped admitting. Walk the street at dusk.
