Where Bodhidharma is said to have stepped ashore from India in 526 — the 'first ground of the coming from the West' (西来初地), a street name to this day — and the small working temple that grew from his hut: rebuilt 1655, a hall of 500 gilded arhats (1849-51, re-sculpted after the Cultural Revolution), a relic stupa, and a courtyard hemmed in by the jade market. One of Guangzhou's four great Buddhist temples by title, one of the smallest by size, and free. The jade street around it is a real trade market and a real place to be overcharged.
EntranceLine 1 Changshou Lu, Exit A, about 650 m; or Line 8 Hualinsi (华林寺) station; the east iron gate opens onto the jade street
