Mingchun Valley bird park
A walk-in aviary hung over a valley beside the summit plaza: a 12,500 m² net on 18 steel columns strung across the Dishuiyan ravine between the 'First Peak of the South' archway and Nine Dragons Spring, opened in 1989 and still, by the bureau's claim, the largest natural birdcage in China and the second-largest in Asia. You walk under the net among cranes, swans, pheasants and smaller birds, nearly a thousand in all by the 2023 count. ¥10 on top of the mountain ticket; the gate is by the summit plaza where the cable car and the A-line shuttle arrive, so it costs no extra walking.
Aviary: gate window at the summit plaza, or the bureau's WeChat official account 广州市白云山风景名胜区 (景区服务 → 预约购票). The free science hall is by timed booking on the 鸣春谷鸟园 mini-program (2023 listing); whether a passport can be entered is not publishedVerified · 2023-12Source ↗
No ID rule for standard entry; concessions require proof. None for the full-price ticket; half price (1.2-1.5 m children, 6-18s, students, 60-64) and free entry (under 6 or 1.2 m, 65+, military, disabled) need ID (2023 listing); whether a foreign passport counts is not stated
Cable car or shuttle to the summit plaza → the aviary gate is signposted from the plaza → ¥10 at the window → one loop under the net, 30-45 minutes.
School groups on weekday mornings in term time (the bureau counts over 100,000 pupils a year); weekend late afternoons are families off the cable car. Early weekday afternoons are quiet.
Bird labels are Chinese with Latin names; the bureau's nature-education programmes are in Chinese.
