The village temple of Pantang, founded in 1052 by the farmers of the lotus-root marshes and dedicated to the Northern Emperor (Zhenwu, the Taoist god who governs water) and rebuilt in the Ming and Qing into a 2,200 m² sequence of halls whose brick carving, pottery ridges and gilded woodwork come from the same Lingnan workshops as the Chen Clan Academy — with none of the crowd. It went back to the Taoist association in 2002 and is a working temple: incense, fortune slips, the 3rd-day-of-the-3rd-month birthday fair. Free, by Liwan Lake Park.
