The old campus of the missionary-founded University of Nanking, now Nanjing University's Gulou campus, sitting between Hankou Road and Guangzhou Road in the middle of the district. Its landmark is the Northern Building - Beidalou - a grey brick tower with a clock face and a climbing curtain of ivy that turns red in November, and the reason most Chinese visitors queue for a campus pass.
