Shenzhen's free public beach: about 1.4 km of sand on Dapeng Bay, backed by hills, run by the district as a city park and open 07:00-23:00. It was one of the city government's ten projects for residents in 1999, was wrecked by Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018 and rebuilt from 2019; today it covers about 20 hectares, with three footbridges, four small gardens, the Wishing Tower on Fengxin Square and the row of seven winged-figure sculptures at the east end. Come on a weekday, or before 09:00. Treat the booking rule as unsettled: the Yantian district's Dameisha page still says a free booking through the 'i Yantian' WeChat official account is needed from 1 May to 7 October and on every weekend and public holiday, but an April 2025 news report said individual bookings had been suspended. The two have not been reconciled, so call 0755-25209678 before you go. Weather is the other rule: under a typhoon orange warning the city meteorological bureau's standing measure is for 'seaside bathing beaches, scenic spots and parks to stop operating immediately', and the park may close in rain or lightning too.
