The free version of a paid observation deck: 336 metres of low hill at the tip of the Shekou peninsula, an hour up and down on stepped paths, and from the top you see the whole of Shenzhen Bay at once - the towers of the city centre one way, the ridges of Hong Kong's Lau Fau Shan across the water the other, the Shekou terminal and the Shenzhen Bay Bridge below. The city parks bureau lists it as Nanshan Park, 351 hectares over two summits, Dananshan at 336 m and Guishan at 275 m. Open 06:00-21:00, free, no ticket and nothing to book.
Read the full note Before you go The gate time is the thing people get wrong. The parks bureau publishes 06:00-21:00, so the night view here is a narrow window, not an all-night option - be off the hill by nine, and if you want Shenzhen lit up late, Lianhua Hill in Futian runs to 23:00. It is stairs, not a path: the Bieshu side is the gentle one and the Customs side is steep, and there is no cable car and no shelter on the ridge. On peak days such as the Double Ninth Festival the ring road has been closed, as of 2023. Come in the hour before sunset rather than in the middle of a subtropical afternoon. And treat a typhoon orange or red warning as a closure: the city meteorological bureau's measure for parks under an orange typhoon signal is to stop operating immediately. On peak climbing days the district has also closed routes and set one-way traffic before. Something wrong here? Tell us → Not this Nanshan Park is Dananshan; Xiaonanshan, the smaller hill behind Chiwan, is a different place. Closes at 21:00 - it is not an all-night night-view spot. Lianhua Hill in Futian runs to 23:00. Not the same as Nanshan District, which is the whole west of the city.
