Futian Central Retail District and VAT Refunds
Not an attraction - an answer to a question. If you buy anything substantial in Shenzhen and you are a foreign national who has been in the mainland for fewer than 183 consecutive days, you can claim the VAT back on the way out, and Futian is the district built around doing it. The rules, from the six-department municipal announcement: at least 200 yuan at one shop on one day, goods unused, departure within 90 days of purchase, carried out with you, and you get 11 per cent back on 13 per cent-rated goods or 8 per cent on 9 per cent-rated ones, agency fee included.

Futian district's tax office runs a foreign-language advisory team working the malls; the city's refund mini-program offers guidance in fourteen languages. The municipal refund notice itself is published in Chinese and English. Individual shops vary.
