A 181-hectare hill at the north end of the central axis, free, open 06:00-23:00, and the reason to walk up it is at the top: a 100 m summit with a 4,000 sqm plaza and a six-metre bronze of Deng Xiaoping striding forward, unveiled on 14 November 2000 and facing straight down the axis at the CBD he ordered into existence. It is the best free view of the Ping An tower and the Civic Centre's wave roof, and unlike the paid deck across the road it stays open until the towers are lit. Below the summit the park is a working city park - kite lawns, a lake, a bougainvillea show every winter - with a ban on group dancing and mass callisthenics that the park authority prints on its own page.
EntranceChildren's Palace station exit F1 on Metro Lines 3 and 4 is 160 m from a park gate, about a three-minute walk (park authority); the shuttle route starts from the southeast gate
