National Stadium
Herzog & de Meuron's steel lattice for the 2008 Games — 91,000 seats under 42,000 tonnes of woven steel, the opening-ceremony stadium of both the 2008 Summer and 2022 Winter Olympics, which no other building can claim. Between concerts it sells a walk-through: the stands, the 'double Olympics' display and, on a separate ticket, the roof walk. The catch is the calendar — the stadium's operating company posts closures around every concert and match (10:00-22:00 with last entry 21:00 on normal days per its July 2026 notice, cut to 10:00-13:00 on event days), so the visit is easy to plan and easy to lose.
Ticket windows at the stadium; the operator's notices give a national hotline 400-600-2008 and post schedule changes via the Beijing government portal — no booking requirement statedVerified · 2026-09Source ↗
No ID rule for standard entry; concessions require proof. Walk-through ticket: no ID stated. A tourism-bureau page says concession documents are 'not restricted by region' (any province's seniors' or student card) — an undated page whose prices are already out of date, so treat as unconfirmed
The plaza is busiest 19:00-21:00 when the lights come on; inside, the walk-through is rarely crowded outside national holidays.
Bilingual signs in the stadium and on the plaza; the 'double Olympics' display has English captions. Hotline Chinese.
