Jingshan Park
The artificial hill directly north of the Forbidden City, piled up from the moat spoil in the 1400s. Its top pavilion is the one place in Beijing where you look straight down the palace's golden roofs to the south — a ¥2 ticket for the best-value view in the city. Five pavilions along the ridge, a peony show in spring, and the tree where the last Ming emperor hanged himself in 1644.
Municipal-park ticketing: the tourism-bureau page lists an online purchase link (no URL); the West Gate keeps a staffed window (sells annual passes 8:30-16:30). The April 2020 real-name notice said the gates stopped selling day tickets (foreigners book by phone and buy at the South Gate window); nothing newer restates or withdraws itVerified · 2025-12Source ↗
Real-name entry; passport holders use the staffed window. Real-name: online tickets on 畅游公园 are keyed to a Chinese ID number and the gate reads the ID card; foreign and HK/Macau/Taiwan visitors book by phone, 010-64038098 (9:00-16:00, up to 7 days ahead) giving name, nationality and document number, then buy at the South Gate service window with that document (park notice, Apr 2020, tourism bureau); free-entry over-60 foreigners show a passport at the window
The Wanchun Pavilion platform on the summit is small and everyone wants the same southward frame. Early morning (park opens 6:30) or the last hour of daylight are the only quiet slots; mid-afternoon after the palace closes is the worst.
Signage at the gates and on the hill paths is bilingual Chinese/English (our expectation from municipal-park practice, not checked in 2026); no English audio guide is listed
