The national botanical garden created in April 2022 by fusing the Beijing Botanical Garden with the Academy of Sciences' garden across the road. Its 400 hectares lie under the Western Hills, and the North Garden is the visitor half: 15 specialist gardens (China's largest rose garden, peonies, lilacs, a peach-blossom valley), a 9,800 m² conservatory with the three 'flagship' giants of the greenhouse world, Cherry Valley's stream walk, Cao Xueqin's memorial cottage, and at the top of the axis the Tang-founded Reclining Buddha Temple with its 5.3 m Yuan-dynasty bronze Buddha. ¥10 at the gate (tourism-bureau page), ¥50 for a pass that adds the conservatory and the temple, both of which close Mondays.

How to book

Real-name online booking on the '国家植物园购票平台' WeChat official account, up to 7 days ahead; foreign and HK/Macau/Taiwan visitors enter a passport or travel-permit number and scan the QR code received by phone at the gate (official ticket page — its wording still carries the pandemic-era health pledge, so treat 'online only' with that caveat; gate windows exist for year passes and walk-up sales are not ruled out); groups for the Dec 9th memorial by phone 010-82598771Verified · 2026-09Source ↗

ID details

Real-name entry; passports are accepted and use the booking QR code. Real-name: a passport or HK/Macau/Taiwan travel-permit number is accepted at booking; one ticket per document per ticket type, up to 6 per order, one document per person; carry the original — Chinese visitors swipe the ID card at the gate, foreign and HK/Macau/Taiwan visitors scan the QR code; 60+ foreigners exchange a free ticket on a passport (official ticket page)

Beat the crowds

Peach-blossom season (late March-April) and the rose garden in May are the busy weeks, when the gate price rises for the flower shows; summer weekdays are quiet and the conservatory is empty in the afternoon. Mondays the conservatory and temple are shut, so go Tuesday to Sunday.

Language

Bilingual plant labels in the specialist gardens and the conservatory; the temple and the Cao Xueqin memorial are Chinese-only. Enquiries North Garden 010-82712345 (tourism-bureau page).
