The grey Romanesque church with three domed towers halfway up Wangfujing — the 'East Church', founded by Jesuits in 1655, burnt in 1807 and 1900, and rebuilt in its present form in 1904 — set back on a paved square that the district opened in 2000 and that is now the street's one public place to sit. It is a working Catholic parish of the Beijing diocese: the square is always open, the church itself opens for Mass, and an English Sunday-afternoon Mass is widely listed but not published by the parish itself, so phone or ask at the door.
EntranceLine 8 Jinyu Hutong station, Exit C, 200 m north; the forecourt opens directly onto the pedestrian street

Beat the crowds
The square is busiest on weekend evenings with skateboarders and wedding shoots; the church is quietest on weekday mornings after the early Mass.
Language
A Sunday 16:00 English Mass appeared on earlier parish tables (2015-17) and still on expat and travel sites, but not on the diocese's 2023 table — current status unknown; Chinese Masses daily. Phone number listed by those sites: 010-65240634.
