The lake park at the mountain's southern foot — 205 hectares with a 21-hectare reservoir, built in 1984 and run by the same bureau as the mountain, free and open all day. It is the green way into Baiyun Mountain from the old city: the Honghu Tower on its hill, the Xinghai Garden (the composer Xian Xinghai's memorial park), the Baiyun Xianguan temple-garden with lotus in summer, and the 'Cloud Path' (云道) elevated walkway that now links Yuexiu Park through Luhu to the mountain gates. Locals fish, row and watch the 180-odd bird species the bureau has counted.

Beat the crowds
Dawn brings the fishing and tai-chi crowd to the lake road; the lotus pond at Baiyun Xianguan draws photographers on June-July mornings; otherwise a big, half-empty park.
Language
Park signs are bilingual; the greenway map boards are Chinese.
