The gold-roofed Buddhist temple sitting surreally among the malls and towers of West Nanjing Road — Shanghai's most photographed sacred-meets-skyscraper contrast. An active temple with a silver Buddha hall, best treated as a 45-minute stop.
Admission¥50 (incense included); usually free on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month and major Buddhist days — except the Spring Festival period, which switches to special tiered pricing (¥100–¥200 on most days, far higher on New Year's Eve)
Ticket window at the entrance; cash and Alipay/WeChat Pay accepted. No reservation needed.
Open 7:30–17:00 (last entry 16:30); opens before dawn on major worship days. Lunar 1st/15th draw enormous worshipper crowds — good spectacle, bad for a quiet visit. Early morning otherwise has actual worshippers and soft light on the gold roofs.

- The classic photo — gold eaves against glass towers — is shot from the pedestrian overpass on the northeast corner of the intersection, outside the temple.
- Incense is included with entry; large burners are in the central courtyard.
- Free-entry lunar days (1st/15th) and festival days mean packed courtyards and long incense queues — visit the day before or after if you want calm.
