Soong Ching-ling's Former Residence
The 1920s villa on Huaihai Middle Road where Soong Ching-ling — Sun Yat-sen's widow, later vice-chairman of the People's Republic — lived from 1948 to 1963, kept with her furniture, her cars in the garage and a lawn of camphor trees. Twenty yuan, closed Mondays, and one of the few small museums here that still requires a mini-program ticket (groups capped at 20-50 people; no daily cap for individuals).
Individuals: buy an 'individual ticket' ahead in the museum's official WeChat ticketing mini-program 上海宋庆龄故居纪念馆 and have the live ticket code on your phone checked at the ticket desk on the day; free categories collect a paper ticket at the desk with their own ID. Groups (space is limited — only 20-50 people) buy a 'group ticket' in the same official mini-program; school-organised primary and secondary pupils' groups phone 021-64747183 at least 1 day ahead (not counting the visit day; Tue-Sun 9:00-16:30) to register; group guiding is registered on the same number at least 3 working days ahead. The museum authorises no third-party ticket or guide agents; any guided activity inside needs prior approval (021-64376268, Mon-Fri 9:00-16:30)Verified · 2023-08Source ↗
Real-name entry; passport handling is unconfirmed. Own valid ID to collect the ticket; the site does not list document types, and whether a passport works for the mini-program's real-name step is not stated
No daily cap for individuals; a 2022 reopening notice mentioned crowd control at capacity, which the current visitor rules no longer list — book early on weekends and holidays. The site suggests keeping the visit under an hour.
Official ticket table fully bilingual Chinese-English (every category incl. free-entry list); in-museum English guiding not stated

Answers you'll need here
- Do Shanghai museums still need a reservation, and can I book on a foreign passport?Depends · Big museums are walk-in again. Where you still book, official channels take passports; WeChat-only venues are the catch.
- Can I hire a guide inside Shanghai's museums, or buy a third-party 'with guide' ticket? No · Not inside. The three big sites ban paid outside guides; use their free scheduled tours and audio guides instead.
