WAIBAIDU BRIDGE · WAIBAIDU QIAO
Free
China's first all-steel bridge (1908) and its only surviving camelback truss, spanning the mouth of Suzhou Creek at the Bund's north end. Free, open around the clock, and lit beautifully at night — stand mid-bridge for the Lujiazui skyline, or shoot the bridge itself from the creek bank with Broadway Mansions behind.
AdmissionFree, open 24 hours
Wedding shoots and crowds peak from dusk until lights-off; early morning is nearly empty with soft light.
Good to know
- Two classic frames: from mid-bridge looking southeast for the Lujiazui towers; from the creek's south bank looking north for the bridge with Broadway Mansions behind — the old postcard shot.
- For its 100th birthday (2008) the entire bridge was barged to a shipyard, restored, and floated back — what you walk on is the original steel.
- Cross the bridge and you are in North Bund; ten minutes on foot toward Hongkou is the quiet three-towers photo spot.
