Dapeng Peninsula in a Day
Choose one Dapeng route rather than trying to cover the fortress, observatory coast and Yangmeikeng in a day. The widely mentioned Dapeng reservation is mainly a car permit, not visitor admission, so settle transport before choosing sights.
The short answer
It is a car permit, not a visitor reservation. From 1 May to 7 October 2026, on weekends and public holidays, private cars of nine seats or fewer need a slot booked in the WeChat official account 深圳交警 to go south of Diefushan Tunnel; buses, taxis, licensed ride-hailing cars and coaches of ten seats or more are exempt, so arriving by metro, bus or a licensed car means nobody asks you for anything. Driving in without one is a 300-yuan fine and a point on the licence. Kuiyong — Rose Coast, Guanhu, Shayuchong — is north of the tunnel and outside the zone altogether.
Fortress and Jiaochangwei in the morning, on foot — the beach is about 1 km south of the South Gate and Dongshan Temple about 700 m east — then one far beach in the afternoon: Xichong or Yangmeikeng, not both. They sit on different bus branches out of Nan'ao and every hop between them is another change. Not on a Monday, when every hall in the fortress is shut.
Book on a Monday at 10:00 for the week that starts then — 300 places a day released in one go in the WeChat official account 深圳天文, weekend slots first to go, and the form asks for an ID-card number with no official word on passports. Miss two bookings without cancelling and you are barred for the rest of the year. The booking is not a beach ticket: you still buy one at the beach ticket office. The observatory does not open at night, and it closes on warnings the beach ignores — a typhoon blue signal or higher, any rainstorm, thunderstorm-gale or lightning warning, or a strong-monsoon yellow.
Xichong station (溪涌) is the Line 8 terminus in Kuiyong; Xichong beach (西涌) is in Nan'ao, about 23 km away, with the same English spelling. Dapeng Centre (大鹏中心) is the bus hub in Dapeng town, not the fortress — you change buses there. Yangmeikeng is the bus stop and the beach; Lujui is the headland 3.2 km east, and Lujui Villa is a hotel there rather than the name of the scenic area. And Dapeng Fortress is neither Dapeng New Area nor Dapeng Bay.
From a typhoon orange signal the city rule is that bathing beaches, scenic areas and parks stop business at once — the whole peninsula shuts and the fortress halls will not open either. The observatory and the geopark trails go earlier: the geopark closed both trails from 09:00 on 7 July 2026 under a rainstorm orange signal, and its trailheads close at 16:00 in any case. Coming back, the Xichong night express leaves the Xinda terminal in Nan'ao at 23:20 at the latest, with the last run from the metro station at 00:50, flat fare 10 yuan.

Getting to Dapeng and the car permit:Not a sight but the rule every Dapeng day runs into. From 1 May to 7 October 2026, on every weekend and public holiday, the traffic police close all roads south of Diefushan Tunnel to private cars of nine seats or fewer that have not booked a slot in the WeChat official account 深圳交警 — but the booking is for the car. Buses, taxis, licensed ride-hailing cars and coaches of ten seats or more are exempt, so a visitor who is not driving books nothing. Getting in: Metro Line 8 has run to its terminus at Xichong (溪涌) since 28 December 2025 — E91 from there for the fortress and Jiaochangwei, E92 for Nan'ao and the beaches beyond it, E90 for Baguang; bus fares run 2-10 yuan a leg. Coming back late, the Xichong night express leaves the Xinda terminal in Nan'ao at 23:20 at the latest, flat fare 10 yuan. everyone — and if you do drive south of Diefushan Tunnel on a weekend without a booking, it is a 300-yuan fine and a point on the licence.
Dongchong Beach and Chuanbiyan Sea Arch:Draft entry — our wording is not final. Dongchong is the quieter beach at the far south-east, 630 m of white sand with the district's largest mangrove stand behind it, and the eastern end of the Dongchong-Xichong coastal walk (about 6 km of walking, around 4 hours, rock-hopping with chain sections). Two things are unsettled, which is why it is a footnote and not a column: since 1 December 2025 the operator has let people on free while its beach club is rebuilt and has not said when charging resumes (it was 30 yuan), and the Chuanbiyan arch's core area, its viewing platform and the shuttle out to it closed at the same time, with no reopening notice found by September 2026. Check the WeChat official account 东涌红树林旅游区 before you set out. a second Dapeng day, and only after you have checked what is actually open.
Nan'ao Seafood Waterfront and Dried-Seafood Street:Draft entry — our wording is not final. Nan'ao is the fishing town where the far beaches' lunch happens: you pick from the tanks, it is weighed and priced by the kilogram, and the kitchen cooks it the way you ask; the dried-seafood street, about 500 m long and some forty years old, sells abalone, dried fish and laver to Hong Kong and Delta shoppers. The protection here is procedural, so use it every time — one price tag per tank item in grams or kilograms, the weighing done in a thin see-through bag with the water drained, and the total confirmed before anything goes to the kitchen ('先计价,后消费'). Ask what the cooking charge is before you order; no official rule on it exists. Complaints: 0755-89779970. the meal between the beaches — and the one place on the peninsula where you watch the scale.
Dapeng Peninsula National Geopark and Qiniang Mountain:Draft entry — our wording is not final. The mountain behind the beaches: 46 km² of the peninsula's south built on volcanic rock from about 145 million years ago, with Qiniang Mountain (869 m, per the district) at its centre, a geology museum at the foot (Tuesday-Friday 09:30-16:30, weekends to 17:30, walk-in, no booking, no official price published) and two marked climbing trails. The trails are why this stays a footnote: a 2023 city park page still says both are 'fully closed', while the park's own 2026 notices treat them as normally open and shut them for weather — it closed them from 09:00 on 7 July 2026 under a rainstorm orange signal. Trailheads close at 16:00 (platform figure), so an afternoon start does not work. Call the park on 0755-84422281 the morning you go. a morning, never an afternoon — and only if the trails are confirmed open that day.

Dapeng Fortress (Dapeng Ancient City)
大鹏所城The anchor of the morning, and the reason Shenzhen is called Peng City: a coastal garrison town laid out in 1394 that you walk into without a gate. Come for the plan of a garrison — the three surviving gates, the street grid, the Qing mansions — not for untouched walls: the museum's own description of the South Gate says the grey bottom courses are early Ming, the red middle section was rebuilt in 1984 and the battlements and gatehouse date from 1998. Any day but Monday, and start at 09:00. For everyone doing Dapeng in a day — the first half, on foot with Jiaochangwei.
Open the place →Jiaochangwei Beach Village
较场尾A place to sleep and eat, not a beach to travel for. What it does well is put a bed about a kilometre from the fortress, which turns the peninsula into two unhurried halves instead of one rushed day. Settle two things before you order or book: in 2023 the market regulator fined five seafood restaurants in the district 100,000 yuan each for short weight, so confirm the weight and the total before anything is cooked — the tank tag must be priced per gram or kilogram and the weighing done in a see-through bag — and get the room price in writing. For anyone turning the peninsula into two days rather than one; midweek if you can choose.

西涌沙滩 · 深圳市天文台The sand Jiaochangwei sends you to, and the longest trip on the peninsula: two bus changes past the end of Line 8, a gate ticket no official body will quote you, and the beach the district calls Shenzhen's biggest. Since April 2023 the village has been certified an International Dark Sky Community, which is the real argument for staying past sunset — fireflies along the river path, stars when the sky is clear. The Shenzhen Observatory on the eastern cliff is free but needs its own booking a week ahead, so it is a plan, not an impulse, and it will not let you onto the beach. For anyone giving Dapeng a whole day, and the dark sky after it — book the observatory on the Monday before.

杨梅坑 · 鹿嘴(东山鹿嘴旅游区)The half of the peninsula with no ticket gate: a coastal road and a two-level sea wall running from a village beach to a headland the district names as a filming location for The Mermaid and as the first place in Shenzhen to greet the sun. It was graded 3A in 2024 as the Dongshan Lujui Tourism Zone. The catch is the last 3.2 km: sightseeing buggy, speedboat, or a 4 km walk to the top, and none of the rides has a published fare, so settle the price before you get in. For the second half of a Dapeng day, for anyone who would rather walk a coast than pay a beach gate.
