One silver building at 184 Fuzhong Road holding two institutions that run on separate rules. The Museum of Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition - locals call it 'the two halls' - occupies most of it: contemporary art on one side, the city planning exhibition on the other, free and, since July 2024, without a booking. Floors four and five are the Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall, which is a Shenzhen Museum site and holds 'The Tide Rises at the Pearl River', the 6,300 sqm state account of Guangdong's first forty years of reform, built for the anniversary in 2018.

Before you goThe confusion here is worth two minutes of your time. First, in June 2026 Shenzhen Museum closed a permanent exhibition called 'The History of Shenzhen's Reform and Opening-Up' for rebuilding - that one is in the Jintian Road hall inside the Civic Centre, across Fuzhong Road about 250 m south. The Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall in this building, with 'The Tide Rises at the Pearl River', is a different thing and is open. Second, the entry rules for the two institutions under this roof are published in different places and have changed repeatedly: Shenzhen Museum's own notice says outright that because its exhibition hall shares the building, you should check MOCAPE's WeChat service account for the current policy - a Chinese-language account with no English version. Booking was dropped in July 2024 and no source since says it came back, but treat that as the answer to check rather than a guarantee. Third, the hours: the city culture bureau's museum directory says 9:00-18:00 for the exhibition hall, Shenzhen Museum's September 2026 notice says 10:00, and MOCAPE's published hours are 10:00-18:00.
