Changkong plank walk (South Peak cliff) — and the Yaozi Fanshen
The board-and-chain path bolted to the South Peak's cliff that every 'most dangerous hikes' list runs a photo of: a few dozen metres of planks and footholds above a drop, walked in a harness on a fixed line, out and back. It is an extra on top of everything else — its own queue at the start of the path (an hour or more on weekends), its own small fee (platform listings around ¥30), harness included — and the scenic area closes it in wind, rain and ice. The Yaozi Fanshen ('sparrowhawk flip') on the East Peak is the same idea on a shorter, steeper cliff, with the same price on platform listings.
No booking: pay and queue at the entrance on the South Peak path; no online sale foundNot independently verified — check official channels before you go
South Peak path → plank-walk gate → pay (platform: about ¥30) → harness → out along the planks to the small shrine → back the same way → return the harness.
Be at the plank-walk gate before 10:00 or after 15:00; the queue on a summer weekend runs 1-2 hours at midday and the path takes each person about 15 minutes out and back.
Attendants speak Chinese; the safety drill is shown, not explained — clip both carabiners, move one at a time.
