Datang Everbright City
The 2 km pedestrian street running south from the pagoda's South Square, rebuilt in 2018-19 as a Tang-dynasty stage set — gilded lanterns, LED skies, bronze poet statues, and after dark a rolling programme of street performers whose viral clips ('the tumbler girl', the 'Tang riddle men') made it China's most-visited night street. Free, open around the clock, no ticket; the shows run to a seasonal timetable the street posts on its WeChat official account. It is a crowd, not a heritage site: come for the lights and the people-watching, and know that the costume-photo stalls, paid performer selfies and juice counters are where visitors get fleeced.
None; performance timetable on the WeChat official account 西安大唐不夜城; enquiries 029-81211080, complaints 029-81211069
Weeknight after 21:00 or before 18:00 is walkable; Friday-Sunday and any holiday from 19:00 is a slow-moving river, with one-way pedestrian flow imposed on the busiest nights. Enter from the South Square end and drift south with the crowd.
Signs and the odd English map; the performances are visual. Chinese-only price boards at the photo stalls are part of the problem.
