The chain that makes a day trip possible: a high-speed train from Xi'an North to Huashan North (about 30-40 minutes on the Zhengzhou line), a free shuttle from the station to the scenic-area visitor centre for anyone with a ticket booking code (non-stop, per local media) or Huayin city buses 1 and 2. Then come the scenic area's own shuttle buses from the visitor centre to the West Peak or North Peak cable-car bases — separate tickets, timed to the cable cars. Every link has a queue at peak; the notices say to 'allow time for queuing, transfers and descent'. Book the return train before you go up.

Beat the crowds
Take the first train after 6:30 from Xi'an North and the 7:00 slot; on the way back, a train after 20:00 leaves margin for the 19:00 last cable descent and the shuttle — and buy it before you go up; evening trains sell out on weekends.
