The cheapest and fastest leg to Lintong is a conventional train, not a high-speed one: from Xi'an station (the old station by the city wall, not Xi'an North), slow trains and two intercity C-trains reach Lintong station in 18-23 minutes for ¥5-10, twelve departures a day out and nine back on the 12306 timetable we read. Lintong station is on the Longhai line north of the town: about 2.5 km north of Huaqingchi metro station and 6.5 km west of the Terracotta Army, so the last leg is a taxi or a local bus. It is a real option for anyone already at the old station or coming in by slow train, and the only rail there is: 12306 lists no station called Lintong East, and nothing runs from Xi'an North to Lintong.

Beat the crowds
Take C182 at 07:15 (19 min) or K2096 at 07:39 and you are at Lintong station by 8:01 — a taxi puts you at the museum gate for the 8:30 opening. Coming back, the 15:19 K773 is the last afternoon train; after that it is 18:48 or 19:50, or bus 613 / 602 to Huaqingchi and Metro Line 9.
