China's first museum devoted to archaeology as a discipline: five galleries explain how sites are surveyed, excavated, dated and conserved before presenting the discoveries themselves. It is far south of central Xi'an beside the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology, with 4,891 objects or groups across the archaeology-history, cultural-sequence, discoveries and conservation sections. Admission is free but advance real-name booking is required through the museum's WeChat official account.

No ordinary foreign-passport booking route is published. Adults book and enter with an original second-generation Chinese ID card; specified exempt groups exchange documents at the staffed window. The passport exemption in the notice is for overseas Chinese, not foreign tourists; call 029-89251666 before travelling.

WeChat official account 陕西考古博物馆 → 门票预约 → choose one of the next five days → timed slot → real-name visitor details. Published instructions route unreadable booked documents and specified exempt groups to the staffed ticket window.
Beat the crowds
Book at the 8:00 release, especially for weekends and holidays. No current official daily-cap figure is published; the widely copied 9,000 figure conflicts with the current rules and is not used here.
