Xi'an Museum
The city's own museum, free, in a garden it shares with the Small Wild Goose Pagoda of 707 and the Jianfu Temple, a kilometre south of the South Gate — the one place with a scale model of Tang Chang'an that shows where today's Xi'an sits on the old grid, plus the Tang tomb figurines and the city's Buddhist stone. Free but booked: five days ahead at 18:00 on the museum's WeChat official account (also Ctrip, Meituan, Dianping, or a QR at the gate for same-day), 15,000 a day, closed Tuesdays; foreign passport holders are told to go to the ticket office at the west gate to be let in. 8:30-18:00, last entry 17:00.
