A Ming Confucian temple (the Panyu county school of 1370, red walls and a Dacheng hall on Zhongshan 4th Road) that in 1926 housed the sixth session of the Peasant Movement Institute, run by Mao Zedong with Zhou Enlai lecturing: the dormitories, classrooms and Mao's office are kept as they were. For visitors the point is twofold: the best-preserved Confucian school compound in the city, and a rare Guangzhou museum with no booking wall at all — free, no reservation, no ID, just the security scanner (museum's own guide). 800 m from Beijing Road, with its own metro station.

Beat the crowds

Weekday afternoons are empty; mornings bring school and work-unit groups for the 9:30 tour. It is a shaded compound — a good 15:00 stop in summer.

Language

Free Chinese tours Tue-Sun at 9:30 and 16:30 from the Dacheng gate; paid Chinese guiding since 1 February 2026 (museum guide). Panels are Chinese with English titles, going by earlier visits; full English not confirmed.
