OCAT Shenzhen
The contemporary art institution inside the factory blocks, founded in 2005 by the He Xiangning museum down the road and now the head museum of a group that has run venues in several Chinese cities. Its English name explains the ambition better than the Chinese one: OCT Contemporary Art Terminal - a terminal being both an arrival and a departure. It occupies two buildings: the original hall in F2 in the south block, a former furniture warehouse wrapped in framed metal mesh with a gable the architects deliberately made temple-like, and the B10 hall 300 m north, a converted magnetic-disk factory, the only square building in the park, kept almost intact and painted white.
