The hexagonal glass box 130 m east of the He Xiangning museum, built as China's first museum devoted to design - graphics, products, fashion, digital work - and run by Shenzhen OCT as the design arm of the OCAT group. It opened on 1 September 2008. The facade is the reason most people photograph it: a honeycomb skin over a converted building, wedged between the He Xiangning museum and the InterContinental hotel.

Before you goDo not make a special trip for this one; make it a five-minute walk from the He Xiangning museum and accept that you may find it between shows. The museum stopped updating its own website in 2019: the old domain now resolves to a registrar parking notice, the OCAT group's site was unreachable throughout, and the city's own register of art museums files it under an address in the creative park 1.2 km away, which is where OCAT is and not where this building is. But the exhibitions have carried on. These days it mostly hosts short shows organised by other bodies - at least four in the second half of 2025, several of them free - and it can be shut for whole stretches between them. What the platforms repeat - 10:00 to 17:30, Mondays closed, a full ticket around 30 yuan, free on Tuesdays - is the museum's own notice from 2019; for opening times, go by what is posted on site or on its WeChat official account. You can ring 0755-33993111 (the number in a 2015 exhibition notice, not confirmed as still working), or simply walk the 130 m from He Xiangning and look.
