The long cable car (2013) from the Wengyu valley on the mountain's west side up to just below the West Peak — 4 km of cabin in about 20 minutes over the granite, landing you on the summit ridge with the South Peak and the plank walk twenty minutes' walk away. It is the way most day-trippers go up: expensive (platform listings put the single ride around ¥140) and reached by a separate shuttle bus from the visitor centre, but it turns the mountain into a half-day. Runs up to 16:00 and down to 19:00 in season by the scenic area's notices; stops in wind.

Beat the crowds
First shuttle from the visitor centre after the 7:00 opening: the queue at the West Peak base builds to an hour or more by 10:00 on summer weekends. Going down, the North Peak cable car is the shorter wait.
