Guangzhou's mountain: 21.8 km², more than 30 peaks, a national 5A scenic area 8 km north of the old city, run by a municipal bureau as one park with seven sub-areas. The mountain ticket is ¥5 and buys the whole south face — the paved road from the South Gate past Nengren Temple to the summit plaza (Shanding Guangchang), the Baiyun Wanwang lookout that has been on the 'eight sights of Guangzhou' list since the Yuan dynasty, and the trails. What it does not buy is the extras: Moxing Ridge (¥5), Mingchun Valley bird park (¥10), Yuntai Garden (¥10), the cable car (¥25 up / ¥20 down) and the shuttle buses (¥10-20 a leg).
EntranceMetro Line 11 Yuntai Garden station; or buses 46, 60, 127, 175, 179, 199, 223, 241, 257, 540, B18 to the Baiyun Cable Car stop (白云索道站)

How to book
No advance booking by day: the city culture bureau's rule of 5 July 2024 ended compulsory real-name booking at A-grade sites from 8 July 2024, with one exception on this mountain — Moxing Ridge between 20:00 and 8:00 the next morning still needs it (platform listing July 2026 agrees). Buy at the gate (windows must take cash as well as mobile payment under the same rule), or in advance on the WeChat official account 广州市白云山风景名胜区 (景区服务 → 预约购票). The website's own 'book tickets' page returned a 502 error when we tried itVerified · 2024-07Source ↗
ID details
No ID rule for standard entry; concessions require proof. Not published for the ¥5 mountain ticket; concession tickets need the relevant ID at the gate (official concession list)
Paying on site
Gate window at the South Gate (¥5), then pay the extras as you meet them: cable car at its lower station next to the gate, shuttle at the A-line stop, Moxing Ridge and Mingchun Valley at their own gates on the road.
Beat the crowds
Weekday mornings before 9:00 belong to locals doing their daily climb and the road is quiet; weekends and public holidays bring the whole city and the A-line shuttle queues at the South Gate.
Language
The bureau runs an English mini-site (baiyunshan.com.cn/bysen) with the sub-park names; signs on the mountain are bilingual; the ticket list and timetables are Chinese only.
