Futian in Half a Day: Civic Centre, Lianhuashan, the Museums and Huaqiangbei
Choose one Futian half-day instead of assuming everything in the district is nearby. The Civic Centre and Lianhua Hill form one route; museums, Huaqiangbei and the mangrove park each pull you elsewhere.
The short answer
Afternoon at the Civic Centre: Lines 3/4 Children's Palace exit A2 → the Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall at 184 Fuzhong Road, open from 10:00, last entry 17:30 → Lianhua Hill through the gate 160 m from exit F1, twenty to thirty minutes up from the southeast gate, started around dusk for the lit skyline; the park is open to 23:00. Huaqiangbei, the Tongxin Road museum and the mangrove park are each a separate trip.
All of them are free. The two Shenzhen Museum halls need no booking (Tongxin Road since 12 July 2024, Jintian Road since 22 July 2024) and let foreign passports through a priority lane on the passport alone. The Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall shares MOCAPE's building, whose entry rules are posted only on a Chinese WeChat official account — bookless since July 2024. Jintian Road's own reform exhibition closed on 1 June 2026; the reform story now is the hall at 184 Fuzhong Road.
Every museum on this page is closed — both Shenzhen Museum halls, the Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall and the Huaqiangbei Museum close on Mondays, and the Shenzhen Museum sites also on the first day after a public holiday. Lianhua Hill, the Huaqiangbei streets and the mangrove park are open: do the hill and the market that day.
Go to look, not to shop: start with twenty minutes in the Huaqiangbei Museum (10:00-18:00, closed Mondays), then walk the market floors. If you buy, name the exact part and quantity, ask several counters, pay through a channel that leaves a record and assume no warranty; for an invoice and returns use the brand stores in the malls or the registered tax-refund shops.
Go to the ecological park, which needs nothing, not the national nature reserve, which takes 80 people a day by real-name WeChat booking and is effectively closed to a visitor without a Chinese ID. Go between November and February and check the tide — the mudflats show at around one metre or below; across the river is Hong Kong's Mai Po.
